Course Summary

The Introduction to Psychodynamic Approaches to the Practice of Psychiatry offers 10 seminars of theoretical and clinical material in psychodynamic psychiatry. The course is for psychiatry registrars who would like an introduction to psychodynamic approaches to the practice of psychiatry. The aim of the course is to help orientate registrars who may be beginning or writing up their long case who are interested in expanding their knowledge of psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Week five: Central Concept: Mourning and Reality; it’s place in Psychotherapy
Week six: Central Concept: Psychotherapeutic Frame
Week seven: Practical Application: Assessment of the Patient
Week eight: Practical Application: The Therapeutic Alliance
Week nine: Practical Application: Common Difficulties in Psychotherapy
Week ten: Practical Application: Ethical Dilemmas
