Course Summary

Seminar series list
The theoretical seminar program draws upon a broad range of classical and contemporary psychoanalytic theory and also relevant research in attachment theory, trauma and neuroscience. We engage the trainees to deepen their understanding of the reading material, as well as to critically evaluate it. The clinical seminar program is lead by the theoretical seminar leader and involves trainees presenting their work for discussion in a collegial and supportive atmosphere. During the course you have extensive opportunities to present and discuss your cases and expand your understanding of psychiatric presentation from different psychodynamic perspective.

Infant observation seminar
The infant observation seminars run within the Developmental Approach Module with slightly separate structure.
It involves one hour observation of a child or a toddler. We are currently considering using digital material in case of difficulties to arrange to observe an infant. Trainee’s observations are then discussed within the seminars which are held on a weekly basis. There is the option of continuing this seminar as a private agreement beyond the structure of the course.
All trainees will be required to have a Working With Children certificate to undertake infant observation.

Supervision and Individual therapy
It is strongly recommended that the trainee be in supervision with a suitable supervisor and undertake their own therapy.

Accreditation
This course has been accredited by the RANZCP Committee for Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies for the seminar and infant observation components of the Individual Dynamic Psychotherapy program. The specific requirements of the Certificate of Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies are listed on the RANZCP website.
